The boys were the first to leave the Wainman HQ on Saturday morning, Northampton bound.
Me and Pheebs were at Stoke with the V8s, and with over 200 cars booked in we left a bit earlier than usual to try and avoid any pit problems. Sensibly the meeting was bought forward slightly and the track was in good shape, and unlike the lads at Northampton we had no rain.
Phoebe got off to a great start in Heat 1. She left the superstars and was through the Reds, but got held up slightly allowing a few to get back passed her, and she finished in eighth.
In Heat 2 her wheel was driven into so she pulled off and recorded a DNF.
Just the Final to go now. She started off well, getting up there or thereabouts, but got followed in. She backed out of the fence and managed to finish ninth in a badly damaged car.
Meanwhile the lads were getting stuck in at a rather wet Northampton.
Ted had a decent evening, getting eighth in Heat 1, and then he won Heat 2 in a drag to the line with fellow driver 422 Ben Riley.
He finished the Final but in the National he got fired in and retired with no brakes.
Danny’s best result was in his second heat, finishing in second place. This was followed by a 14th and a slightly better 10th in the national.
FWJ didn’t fare much better with a sixth place in Heat 1. In his second heat he went out with Nigel Green, losing a lot of ground and eventually finishing in 15th. He had seventh in the final and tenth in the Grand National.
So onwards to a sunny Buxton on the Sunday. Ted looked quick, but he’s not liking starting from blue much?
He got tenth place in both heats, plus a well deserved sixth in the Final, and then finished his weekend with 13th in the National.
FWJ got a 3rd in his first race, but in his second heat the halfshaft went. Made some progress in the Final with a fourth, just ahead of Ted. Didn’t make much ground in the National, finishing in 10th.
Danny was consistent in his heats with two sixth places. He struggled in the Final, finishing 12th. He loaded up after this race due to gearbox issues.
To finish off, a quick mention to Silsden based driver, and Team Wainman mechanic #3 Chris Fort, who was the dogs… ! He picked up some great places in his heats, and then won the Final.
Big thanks to Alan Bradbury, Colin Casserley, and Paul Greenwood for these pics!
