Frankie went to King’s Lynn yesterday (14/4/2023) to test his new shale car and was impressed so was a late booking for this meeting, and we also had Danny racing and Jonathan Davison (469) in a hire car.
Whites and Yellows
Jonathan went out in the whites & yellows race and started from the back as a novice, but all the action was at the front and after an early tangle for Nigel Harrhy and Richard Woods, Richard got away and won the race with Sam Bring 2nd and Geoff Nickolls 3rd.
Heat 1
Frankie and Jonathan went out for heat 1, with Frankie alongside Lee Fairhurst with the superstars and Jonathan off the back.
There were a couple of stoppages early on but Frankie’s new car looked quick from the off. After a few laps battling with world champion Charlie Sworder, the youngster got past Frankie and held that position to the end of the race despite Frankie’s best efforts to retake the position. Heat 1 was won, in the sunshine, by Mark Sargent, with Frankie 6th.
Heat 2
Danny went out for heat 2 and started at the back of the reds and had a steady race which was won by Mick Haworth, with Danny coming home 6th behind Bobby Griffin who passed him late on to take 5th.
Consolation
Jonathan went out for the consolation, and in a race with no yellows it was entertaining, with Dave Polly lines=d up for his first win in the 138 car, but a last bender from Mat Newson for the win resulted in DNF’s for them both and Austin Moore came through to take the chequered flag. Jonathan finished in 9th.
Final
The final was an eventful race with red flags before we had 1 lap completed, after Micky Brennan (in a Mat Newson car) rolled on turn 4 with mark Gilbank ending up on top of him. This was strange as Micky had rolled his F2 earlier in the same meeting too.
We had all 3 drivers in the final but sadly none finished, with Frankie retiring with a carburettor issue, Danny with a puncture and Jonathan after a tangle with another car.
Bobby Griffin came through the field and won the race with Lee Fairhurst 2nd and Casey Englestone 3rd.
Grand National
Again we had all 3 cars out for what turned out to be brutal grand national with bumpers flying in everywhere. Frankie has a race long tussle with Ashley England with both drivers sending each other fenx=ceward, Danny ended up facing the wrong way in the latter stages of the race after being partially spun by Bobby Griffin and Tom Harris completing the job.
In the end Frankie had his best finish of the meeting coming home 4th with Danny 11th.
Next time out it will be Mildenhall and Northampton for back-to-back world championship qualifiers, so see you there.
