On Saturday the 2nd of May, a special friend and fan of the team and family lost his courageous battle against cancer.
Aged just 16, Ben passed away peacefully at home.
When Ben was 13 he discovered a lump in his neck and after various tests it was confirmed that the lump was a tumour. Ben started with chemotherapy and also travelled to America to have a special type of radiotherapy called Proton radiotherapy. Ben spent an awful amount of time in and out of hospitals, and there were times when the outcome looked positive, giving him and his family hope.
On the 13th of April this year we received a message from Ben’s parents to inform us that there was no more treatment available for Ben. Ben was now receiving palliative care.
This young man gave it his all to say the least! He never gave up and was always positive when we saw him around the raceways. Not once did he grumble when speaking to us or the team. He remained positive right up to the end, even texting me at Coventry to ask me to wish Frankie and Danny good luck.
We texted each other throughout the meeting with results. In his last text he said that he couldn’t wait to see us all.
Ben passed away shortly after the Grand National had run.
Ben lived for stock cars and tractors! A sweet natured young man who will be greatly missed by the Wainman team and family, plus others from the racing scene who had the pleasure of meeting him.
Our deepest sympathy goes to Ben’s parents, Howard and Tilley, and to his younger sister Milly.
We will never forget you Ben, thank you for choosing the Wainmans as your favourite racing team.
