So we were up against Gisborne Giants for our semi final. To be honest I wasn’t feeling that confident about this race, as Gisborne had been a really strong team the night before.
Anyway, the “poms” were fantastic!!! Every driver played their role perfectly, FWJ and Lee worked together all the way through, and lead the race between them every step of the way.
Chris Cowley turned out to be the best blocker the team have probably ever had! Ben Hurdman was fab, he got put in hard but carried on like a trooper and made some really good moves and decisions.
We couldn’t have been prouder when team GB took the flag! Probably the best race we’ve had against such a tough team. This also secured us a place in the final against Hawkes Bay.
We weren’t quite so lucky against Hawkes Bay. FWJ’s fuel pump failed so he had to sit out and watch from the infield. Ben got put up the wall, and Lee and Chris did their best between them to keep the team in with a chance.
The cars took quite a battering, as Hawkes Bay did their job right, 2 runners got away and there was no stopping them.
So we finished a credible second, beating some good teams on the way. The lads were just fantastic and worked so well together, they did the UK proud.
Obviously the other drivers will have people to thank, but here’s a few we would like to say a big thanks to:
Guy Parker and Peter Falding, great organisation again and so much hard work and effort to make it happen, Chad Evans, Phil Ogle and his team for supplying us with a great car, Rob Lintern, Neil and Jacqui Brigg, and finally, thanks to, Lee Fairhurst, Chris Cowley, Ben Hurdman, Chris Brocksopp, and Derek Fairhurst.
