On cloud nine at the British Championship

The decisive move that led to Frankie’s 9th British Championship.

So all three Wainman boys were in the first heat. Frank looked quick From the off and made a lot of ground, slowly catching race leader Karl Hawkins 175. He cautiously went for a last bender not wanting to mess things up for either of them. Karl came out of the bend just ahead and took the flag, with Frank in a close second and Danny in third, and Ted finished 7th, so a really good start to the meeting for all of us.

In Frank’s second race he wasn’t as quick. He was saving his tyre for the Final, even so he finished with seventh. His third race and the heavens opened, making track conditions tricky. He managed to get into the lead but spun. He didn’t lose too many places and crossed the line in third qualifying for the British on the inside of row 3.Not a bad place at all.

Danny consistently drove well in his other two races, with two more third places. This placed him on the second row outside.

Ted had another decent result in his second race despite being hit by a car coming off infield and losing places. He managed to regain a few though, finishing in sixth. His third heat wasn’t as smooth, he got put into fence, but got back out and crossed the line in 12th. This put him on inside row 7.

The track was a bit claggy after being regraded for the main event. FWJ managed to survive the first few laps and was sat in second when the waved yellows came out. The clutch pipe had burst at this point so it was important he had to get the rolling lap right so not to stall the car. He managed to get the gear change right.

He managed to catch the leader and saw his opportunity to give Tom a hit which was good enough for him to get away. He went on to take his ninth British championship.

Danny’s race was a bit short lived after suffering a puncture early on. Ted was getting up to all sorts, he came out of first bend in fifth before spinning out. He got going again and got put into a post. He managed to get it going again before going wide and hitting the fence. So a DNF for him too.

A great day and thrilled to win it again!! Many thanks to all sponsors, team, and family.  Thanks also to Antony Jenkins, Jonny Goss, Paul Greenwood, and Colin Casserley for taking these photos!
