Our bank holiday weekend was pretty manic!
Frank’s car got left as it was from the last time he raced it due to work load.
We had plenty to do to get 555 and 211 out for the weekend, as well as work to do on Joff Gibson’s car. This meant barely any sleep for the 3 of them on Friday night / Saturday morning!
Frank set off for Doncaster to the rolling road with an engine lent to Phoebe by Andy Hulse. And we followed on behind a bit later meeting him at King’s Lynn.
Young Frank was in Heat 1. He had the wrong gears in which didn’t help. He crashed out with James Morris and lost his tyre completely off the rim. This sent him to the consolation where the car was handling much better and he qualified for the final with a 6th.
FWJ and Danny did well in their heats. 515 finished in 2nd, and Danny in 6th, all 3 had qualified for the final.
Young Frank had a great start, but 2 laps into the race his brakes failed. He managed to pass the blues and yellows and into 4th before a spinning car caused him and Mark Woodhull to crash out. FWJ couldn’t quite find the pace to catch the top 3 but finished with a decent 4th. Danny collected some damage but still finished in 11th.
Frank got another second in the national. Danny was just behind in 4th and young Frank held his own finishing in 7th.
Danny headed home after the meeting and we made our way to Skeg, where there was a couple of F1s in the V8 pits…!
Phoebe was at Skegness for Sunday and Monday. She looked quick, and picked up a couple of 4th places. She was paired with 478 Shane Geary for the National Pairs Championship and between them they finished seventh overall.
She was really smooth and consistent, and we plan to alter her car a little bit to try and improve it.
When me and Pheebs loaded up we decided to drive to Belle Vue to watch the end of the meeting.
By the time we got there the boys had raced in their heats. Young Frank got fired into John Dowson, he carried on but didn’t qualify. FWJ got a flat on the second lap, and Danny just about scraped in with a 10th.
Final time, Frank got put into a parked car early on. 555 got tangled up several times and got another DNF. Danny did the best with a 7th.
Frank’s night didn’t get my better in the GN. He piled into Will Yarrow at the end of the straight resulting with front end damage. Young Frank battled on finishing in 10th, and Danny did better, finishing in 4th.
So not our best weekend but not our worse either, looking forward to just the one meeting this weekend.
