2022 Meeting Report – Sheffield (12/6/2022)

This was the final ‘shale’ qualifier before the 2022 world championship semi final grids are decided. Next weekend at Ipswich will be the last one (tarmac) to gain valuable points for a place in a semi. We had 4 cars at Sheffield, Frankie, Danny, Phoebe, and Lewis Galer
Whites and Yellows race
Lewis went out for the whites and yellow race, and from yellow for the first time, drove an excellent race to come home and take the chequered flag for the first time in a BriSCA F1, and we are sure this won’t be the last time we see him with a race win.
Heat 1
Lewis and Phoebe were out in heat 1, and what a race it turned out to be, it was blue top domination, with Phoebe on the back bumper of leader Josh Smith (191) for lap after lap and she tried a last bender but just failed to dislodge him and finished a commendable 2nd, Josh taking the chequered flag and Lewis finishing 11th.
Heat 2
Both Frankie Danny went out for heat 2, Danny on the back row of the reds and Frankie at the back. There was a period of yellow for fence repairs after Nigel de Kock (525) and Joff Gibson (249) had a coming together, then the reds came through and a familiar winner with Ryan Harrison (197) taking the win, Danny followed Mark Sargent (326) over the line for 3rd with Frankie following Tom Harris (1) over the line for 5th.
Consolation
We only had Lewis on track for the consolation, and his race ended prematurely as he took a visit the infamous Sheffield fence, and the race was won by popular local driver, Paul Harrison (2).
Final
The meeting final was memorable for different reasons, and we had Frankie on the front of the superstars, Danny on row 2 of the reds and Phoebe alongside Josh Smith on the front of the blues.
After a period of yellows for the stranded 339 car of Ant Lee there was a dash for the line with Joff Gibson leading Ashley England (346) and John Lund (53) in to the last few laps.
Joff crossed the line first with John close behind, although it was deemed he jumped the restart and was docked 2 places, and therefore John Lund was the winner, which broke a whole host of BriSCA F1 records, including becoming the oldest winner of a BriSCA F1 final. Frankie followed Karl Hawkins over the line for 5th with Phoebe 11th.
Grand National
All 4 cars made it out fo the grand national, and it was another action packed race with a few yellows, mainly for cars in the fence, and after the last restart, Lewis was sitting 2nd behind leader Micky Randell (172), In the end it was Ryan Harrison who won his 2nd race of the afternoon with Frankie 2nd and Danny 6th.

Off to Ipswich next weekend for the final WCQ round, see you there.
