The biggest weekend on the BriSCA F1 calendar took place two weeks ago at Northampton Shaleway, where we had an amazing 115 BriSCA F1 cars competing over the 3 days as well as a large number of BriSCA F1 heritage cars too.
After the time trials the world final grid looked like this, with Danny on row 5, Frankie JJ on row 7 and Frankie back on row 15. But in Frankie’s own words “I don’t plan staying there for long”, which were poetically correct as it turned out.

After the usual grid walks all the cars went into parc-ferme and we were treated to some match races where we had Frankie in the Rapid Orange Heritage car and Danny in a heritage 212 car.

On to the big race itself, and after the parade laps and a couple of rolling laps the green flag dropped and at the first bend, with Kyle Gray clear of the pack, Bobby Griffin took the Tom Harris car to the fence, almost rolled and then the train ploughed in resulting in waved yellows followed by red flags, and at this point Frankie and Craig Finnikin had moved into the top 10 from row 15!
As the drivers were told at the drivers briefing, any stoppage in the first 3 laps would be a ‘full restart’ with 15 mins repair time, and that’s what happened.
Lots of cars had damage, but two had major damage, Tom Harris and Lee Fairhurst, with with damage to the front end of their cars, and with a restriction of only two nominated mechanics and the driver allowed to work on the cars, Tom managed just in time and sadly for Lee it wasn’t enough time for a front axle change.
A full restart then took place and what a race we had, with Kyle Gray once again getting fantastic start and Tom Harris struggling, all the action was behind the 124 car.
There were yellow flags later in the race, but sadly Danny retired with a puncture and Frankie JJ had to retire when his oil filter was damaged in a collision mid-way through. But Frankie was still going strong and making his way through the field, and then the 5 lap board came out he had a podium in sight, and he did a fantastic job of both attacking and defending to secure a place on the podium in his what was his 34th consecutive world final.
Another milestone that was achieved was, Frankie became the oldest driver to podium in a world final.
Thanks to Colin Casserley and Ian Bannister for these great photo’s
