Last weekend was the first Skegness Speed Weekend of the season, and we had Frankie, Danny Karl (Saturday) and Phoebe (Sunday) racing.
Pre-meeting Frank took the Rapid Orange heritage car out for a few laps of Skegness under the watchful eye of new owner Dave Asquith, who was racing the car all weekend as the heritage cars (including a few Wainman ones) were supporting the meetings.
The heats on Saturday were brilliant, with action and bumpers going in everywhere. Frankie followed Tom over the line in heat 1, and Karl finishing 9th in his heat, but Danny took a trip to the fence and it took him a while to get his breath back.
The Andrey Battye Memorial Final was another great race with Callum Thornton taking the win with Frankie 6th. Frankie followed this up with another 6th in the grand national.
On to Sunday and it was UK Open time and Phoebe took over in the hot seat of Karl’s car to try to defend the title she won last year.
Phoebe had no luck at all in her heats and as a result was not able to take her position on the grid for the final, but Frankie and Danny did, finishing in 9th and 14th respectively.
Congratulations to new 2026 UK Open Champion, Casey Englestone (120), who rode out a massive last bender from Liam Gilbank to take the title.
An entertaining Weekends racing for drivers and fans alike!
