The year was 1984, and by the look of the photo’s it was early in the year and there was an open day at Wainman HQ in Silsden, and a visit up to Yorkshire was organised by Notts & Derby Supporters Club. So onto their coach and they (and 30 or so other keen fans) made the journey north.
A few weeks ago we were approached by Dave Arnold, who recalled a visit to the farm in Silsden with his sister Jane in the early 1980’s, and thankfully he managed to dig out and send us some photo’s of the day, and what great memories they brought back.
As you can see there was snow on the ground, which there can be at any time up here I know, but these photo’s, that are over 40 years old, show what life on the farm was like then.
Outside you can see a couple of cars in various states of repair, with the legendary blue and orange colours clearly visible.
In the workshop you can see bonnets and wings lined up, including what looks like one for Joe Jopling (452) and also for Bobby Butrns (471) both who hired/raced Wainman cars during this period.
Speaking of Bobby Burns, his Ahern car was in the garage having some repairs at this time.
There was a small stock car there, clearly for sale, and Dave’s sister Jane is there posing with it, and Dave still has the jumper she was wearing that day.
You can also clearly see a car in the garage that is for sale.
What an amazing insight into the life at the Farm all those years ago.
