2022 Meeting Report – Lochgelly (3/6/2022)

For the first time since 2018, the BriSCA F1 roadshow ventured across the border for a Scottish Weekender, with the highlight of the weekend being the Scottish Championship on the Saturday at Cowdenbeath!
We had 4 cars in Scotland, Frankie, Phoebe, Frankie JJ and reigning F2 world champion, Chris Burgoyne (64) in an FWJ hire car.
Heat 1
Frankie and Frankie JJ took to the track for heat 1, and once the long awaited racing started, there was no stopping, former star grade driver, Simon Traves (47) as he led from halfway to take the chequered flag, with Frankie following him over the line in 2nd and JJ 9th.
Heat 2
Phoebe was out for heat 2 along with Chris Burgoyne in the hire car, and with only the first 6 qualifying for the final, Phoebe just missed out finishing in 7th. At the front, a great battle between Jake Harrhy (345) and Liam Gilbank (20) resulted in a win for Jake on his first race at this track.
Consolation
Phoebe, Frankie JJ and Chris took to the track for the consolation, and as the chequered flag fell, it was a ‘what might have been’ moment for Phoebe. She had been catching eventual race winner, John Fortune (164), for a number of laps, and on the last lap she hit him going into turn 3 going for the win, and sadly her car jumped out of gear allowing John to win and she came home a very creditable 5th. JJ came home 6th to put both cars into the final.
Final
The final was a calmer race then those that preceded it, and apart from a stoppage for damage to the car of Tyrone Evans (381) and the related fence repairs, and also a coming together for the 327, 20, 13, 451 and 524 cars, Shaun Webster came over the line first for his first final win of the season! Frankie finished 4th and Phoebe 8th.
Grand National
All 4 Wainman cars were out for the last race of an entertaining evening at Lochgelly, and in a race with no yellows, Jake Harrhy took his 2nd win of the evening, with Phoebe coming 4th and Frankie following 2 places behind in 6th.
A great evening at Lochgelly (Friday) and now onto Cowdenbeath (Saturday).
