2022 Meeting Report – Mildenhall (9/4/2022)

Well the day couldn’t have started off any worse, with, as reported elsewhere (click here for details), the turbo unit on the race truck failing less than an hour from the farm.
But we pulled together and with lots of help we managed to get to the Suffolk track in time for the first race of the evening.
We took 5 cars to Mildenhall, Frankie, Danny, Phoebe, Frankie JJ and Lewis Galer’s.
Heat 1
Frankie, Danny and Lewis were out in heat 1 with the212 and 515 cars the only superstars. After some action packed racing Frankie finished the race 2nd with Danny 4th, the heat being won by Jack France (216).
Heat 2
Frankie JJ went out in heat 2 along with Phoebe, and after a few stoppages, Frankie JJ came home 8th to secure a place in the final, with Phoebe not placing after a coming together with Charlie Sworder (5).
Consolation
Both Phoebe and Lewis went out to contest the consolation, and in a race won by Josh Smith (191), Phoebe managed 10th and earned a place in the final.
Final
The final was another action packed race, with some hard but fair driving from all concerned. There were 3 periods where the waved yellows were out, the latter being for Phoebe and Chris Cowley (73) who tangled at one point, but we did have 3 finishers with Frankie 4th, Danny 5th and Frankie JJ 9th, and yet another final win for Ryan Harrison (197).
Grand National
With final winner Ryan Harrison starting with the lap handicap, we had 25 cars out for the grand national, including all 5 Wainman cars. The racing was good and we had another race win from Sam Brigg (87) with Frankie JJ finishing 5th and Phoebe 11th. Danny retired with a blown engine and Frankie had issues with the birdcage bearing forcing him to retire..

Now off to Northampton!
