2022 Meeting Report – Odsal (2/5/2022)

From the tarmac of Buxton 2 days ago we next made the relatively short trip to Odsal for a Bank Holiday Monday meeting which was preceded with a Yorstox Football match between the BriSCA F1 drivers and NMS drivers.
The football match was very entertaining and full details of the game can be found by clicking here.
We took 3 cars to Odsal, Frankie, Danny and Frankie JJ all looking to entertain the Bank Holiday crowds, and Phoebe was there in a different capacity ….. football referee!!
Heat 1
We only had Danny out on track in heat 1, and in a race that featured Tom Harris’ (1) eagerly awaited new shale car, it didn’t disappoint as he won the heat, leading Paul Hines (259) and Josh Smith (191) over the line, with Danny finishing 8th.
Heat 2
Frankie and Frankie JJ both took to the track for heat 2, JJ on the back row of the star drivers and Frankie lined up alongside Matt Newson (16) at the back.
It was an action packed race, we fist had yellows for a big pile up on turns 2, then reds following another crash that resulted in Simon Traves (47) ending up on his roof.
After a race long battle with early leader Sam Brigg (587(), now with a ref roof, Matt Newson and Frankie manages to pass him to take 1st and 2nd respectively and JJ flowing Sam over the line in 4th.
Heat 3
All 3 of our cars were out on track for heat 3, Frankie JJ on the back of the reds with Paul Hines, and Frankie and Dany with Tom Harris at the back.
The race was dominated by Ricky Wilson (502) till well over half way, but after yellows for the recovery of the 163 car of David Balmer, Tom Harris, Frankie and Jack France (216) passed him to take the first 3 places, with Danny finishing 4th and JJ 8th.
Final
Again we had all 3 cars in the final, and what a final it turned out to be, flag to flag entertainment, with crashes, yellow flags, red flags and a rollover.
As the reds moved through the pack, all in pursuit of early leader Ricky Wilson, yellows bunched the pack up with Sam Brigg and Austin Moore (127) retiring.
Frankie retired not long after with a puncture, and then we had more yellows when Mick Haworth (235) and David Balmer came to rest on the turn 3 fence, with the 163 car ending up on its side.
After the restart we ended up with a 3-way battle for the lead, with Matt Newson, Frankie JJ and Tom Harris all chasing the chequered flag. After a pulsating final 5 lap where JJ managed to keep the reigning world champion at bay with some excellent driving, Tom passed JJ and in a hectic final lap, Matt Newson took the win ahead on Tom with Frankie JJ getting an excellent 3rd place finish.
Grand National
All 3 of our cars made it out for the grand national.and it was no surprise to see the dominant Tom Harris take his 3rd victory of the evening, with Simon Traves (using a borrowed wing from the 463 car) finishing 2nd with our cars filling the next 3 places, Frankie 3rd, JJ 4th and Danny 5th.
A great evening at our local track, back on tarmac at Skeggy next weekend, see you all there!
