2022 Meeting Report – Bradford (27/8/2022)

After the Venray weekend we were back nearer to home this week with a double Yorstox weekend at Odsal and Sheffield, and at Odsal we had 4 cars with Frankie driving his car, and New Zealand driver Mitch Vickery (NZ3), Nathan Harrison (299) and Lewis Galer all out in hire cars, with Mitch getting his first outing in the car he will use for the world final in 2 weeks time.
Before the meeting, Frankie joined some other drivers in some pre-meeting entertainment (Star in a Reasonably Priced Car), doing times laps in a small Mazda, with Frankie coming a commendable 4th ……. out of 4!!!!!! Lee Fairhurst was fastest, Craig Finnikin next followed by Jack France.
Heat 1
Match and Nathan went out for heat 1, and both off the back with Nathan driving with a white roof and Mitch from blue (but was yellow).
There was only one stoppage in the race for the recovery of Daniel Brook’s (548) car and the heat was won by Austin Moore (127) with Nathan finishing 10th.
Heat 2
Frankie, Mitch and Lewis went out for heat 2, Lewis on the back of the whites and Frankie lined up with Craig at the back, with Mitch again starting from the back.
Lewis was in the lead from early on and was still leading then we had yellow flags for the recovery of the (now) 3 wheeled George Elwell car.
Lewis holds the lead but is passed a few laps from home by Lee Fairhurst (217) who went on to win with Lewis finishing 7th. Frankie and Mitch failed to finish.
Heat 3
Frankie, Lewis and Nathen all headed out for heat 3, and after a few stoppages Daniel Ford (18) was leading until a late stoppage as the 424 car of Mike Heywood lost a wheel. After this Daniel tried to hold his lead, but a well times last bender from 2nd placed Matt Newson (16) saw him take the hear win, with Daniel 2nd. Frankie retired with a cooling issue during the race.
Final
All 4 cars went out for the final, Lewis was on the front row of the whites, Mitch off the back of the yellows, Frankie was alongside Matt Newson oat the front of the superstars and Nathan again off the back.
Around lap 6 we lost Nathan as he tangled with Thomas Andrew (453).
Another stoppage for the rolled car of John Frost, and at this point the top 3 were Daniel Ford, Sam Makim (93) and Craig Finnikin (55). Daniel managed to hold on to the lead this time and win his 2nd race in a BriSCA F1 (his first final, with both being at Odsal. Matt finished 2nd with Sam Makim 3rd.
Grand National
Again we had all 4 cars out for the last race of the evening, and with final winner, Daniel Ford, staring from the back (half lap handicap) it was set to be an interesting race.
After a couple of early stoppages for stranded cars and debris on the track, both times Lewis was in the lead, however he was passed by Matt Newson about halfway and he dropped down the order, and by this time Frankie was up to 5th and Nathan 11th.
Matt New3son won the grand national for his second win of the evening, with Frankie 3rd, Mitch 6th, Lewis 7th and Nathan 9th. 4 cars in the top 10 for Wainman Racing!

Off to Sheffield for some more action on the loose stuff tomorrow, see you there.
