2023 Meeting Report – King’s Lynn (20/5/2023)

It was back to Norfolk for this weekends racing, with just Frankie, Phoebe and Karl making the trip to King’s Lynn, but we did take Daniel Brook’s car down with us for him. With 45 cars, including the returning Ryan Harrison (now using number 97), it was a 2 heat, consolation, final and grand national format for the evening, with a ‘whites and yellows’ race to kick off the evening.
Whites & Yellows
We didn’t have any cars in the whites and yellows race and this was won by Marc Clayton from Lincolnshire, who took the Eric Graveling Memorial Trophy.
Heat 1
Just Phoebe went out for heat 1, and lined up alongside Casey Englestone on the front row of the reds.
There were several periods of yellow flags and after the last of these, for the recovery of Sam Makim, it was Nigel Harrhy who was leading, in a ‘new to him’ car, with Phoebe lying 9th.
From the restart it was Craig Finnikin who got to the front and a great last few laps saw him take the win with Phoebe failing to finish after a coming together with William Adams 545 car.
Heat 2
Frankie and Karl went out on track for heat 2, Frankie at the back and Karl at the back of the blues.
After a few laps it was Jack France who had a good lead with Tom Harris making progress from the back alongside the returning Ryan Harrison.
Ryan was black flagged for a loose body panel and it was Jack France who went on to win by close to half a lap from Tom Harris. Karl finished 8th and Frankie retired with engine issues which was the end of his evening.
Consolation
Just Phoebe out for the consolation, and she did what she had to do finishing 6th to join Karl in the final. The race was won by Ryan who took the lead just before half distance.
Final
So it was Phoebe and Karl being the Wainman Racing representatives in the final, and they lined up together on the grid, Karl being the back blue and Phoebe the front red.
Charlie Sworder spun out on lap 1 and a few laps later there was a stoppage to check on Nigel Harrhy and Colin Goodswen who had a coming together on turns 3 & 4.
After this it was Tom Harris who made his way to the front with Craig Finnikin on his back bumper, and it stayed that was for a good number of laps, and then on the last lap Craig tried a last bender on Tom taking them both out and allowing Ryan Harrison to come through to take his 2nd win of the night, with Craig recovering to 5th. Phoebe finished in 11th just ahead of the recovering Tom Harris who finished 12th.
Grand National
Again it was Phoebe and Karl were on track for the grand national, with Ryan starting at the front with the one lap handicap.
There was just the one stoppage for the recovery of Peter Hobbs (108) car and from there it was Tom Harris who took control and won the final to make up for the disappointment of losing out in the final, with Ryan passing Karl late on for 3rd. Karl finished 4th and Phoebe 9th,

Odsal double header for us next weekend, see you all there!
