We had a long weekend ahead when we set off early for the long trip to Mildenhall, and we were joined by Danny and we also took Daniel Brook’s car with us too.
After an encouraging start for Frankie’s new shale car last weekend we were hopeful of a good wends racing.
Heat 1
Frankie was in heat 1 and on Mildenhall short oval it was a tough race and at halfway the yellows came out and Frankie was up to 9th with a few ‘lap down’ cars between him and the leaders, in the end it was Finn Sargent who won his first race of the season with Dave Polly 2nd and Liam Gilbank 3rd. Frankie finished 7th.
Heat 2
Danny went out for heat 2 and started alongside Bobby Griffin on the front of the reds, after a couple of yellow flags it was Mick Haworth who led with 5 to go and he held that position to take his 2nd win of the season with James Morris 2nd and Mark Woodhull 3rd. Dany finished 9th
Consolation
We didn’t have a car in the consolation, which was won, after several stoppages, by Craig Finnikin, his 5th of the season.
Final
Danny and Frankie both took to the track for the final, and it was a packed grid that set off on the rolling lap. Geoff Nickolls was the early leader before we had several cautions, after which Dave Polly was black flagged, and that left us with Nigel de Lock leading with Frankie making excellent progress through the pack. Behind him there were numbers flying in and spinning cars on the infield, and with Bobby Griffin, Charlie Sworder and James Morris having their own battle, this left Frankie with a task of catching and passing Nigel for the first win in the new car. Nigel de Lock was 2nd and Charlie 3rd.
Grand National
Frankie started the grand national a lap down, and Danny in the middle of the reds, and in a race without yellows it was entertaining, with Dave Polly looking like he ws going to get his first F1 win but got tangled with Jake Walker allowing Tom Harris through to take the chequered flag. Frankie finished 10th and Danny 11th.
After a successful meeting, we had to Northampton for another WCQR, see you all there.
